On Tuesday night, Chris and Oliver Wood are stopping in South Louisiana for a gig at the House of Blues’s fabulous Parish Room in the French Quarter. You may recognize Chris as a founding member of modern jazz titans Medeski Martin and Wood, as well as being one of the most talented bass players out there today. His brother Oliver, while a little less well known, is just as talented and just as powerful a presence on stage – leading the sibling duo on acoustic/slide guitar and vocals. Topping the band off is gifted drummer Tyler Greenwell, whose propulsive percussion creates the last layer of the Wood Brothers sound.
Wood Brothers – Postcards From Hell; Live From The Bywater
Last time they were in New Orleans, The Wood Brothers performed a private concert in the Bywater neighborhood and streamed the gig for LiveSet.com (see: above video) and then put down a pair of fantastic shows in the Parish Room and then up to Baton Rouge at The Varsity Theatre. More recently, the brothers just finished a West Coast run supporting Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alumnus Steve Winwood and his band, and should be good and oiled up for the Tuesday gig. I’m especially excited for this show, as United Airlines did everything they could to make sure we missed a Wood Brothers show in the mountains this past summer, so I’ll see you inside.
Tickets are $15 and can be found here. Should be a great show.
