The Black Crowes to end hiatus, end tour in New Orleans

The Black Crowes released a special Christmas announcement yesterday, with news that the band would be back on the road in 2013. Similar to their final pre-hiatus shows of last year in Amsterdam, the Crowes will hit the road in Europe before heading back to the states for a 21 stop tour that will culminate in a special Jazz Fest aftershow at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for Performing Arts in New Orleans on May 4th.

For the first time since 2006, Galactic cut the brake lines and went full steam ahead at The Maple Leaf. The monster two set show was heavy on old classics, and when they tore into the set closing “Crazyhorse Mongoose“, the Leaf was undoubtedly the epicenter of the End-Of-The-World funk outbreak.

Papa Gros Funk held down the last headlining spot at the now defunct River Stage, where so many great acts had played in years prior. Wish I would have known.

June & Johnny invited Galactic’s Ben Ellman & Rob Mercurio to The Maple Leaf’s Thursday night gig, and the foursome churned out some deep inspired improv for the packed Oak Street crowd.
